Mumbai rains LIVE: Mumbai is on India Meteorological Department's (IMD) red alert for ‘heavy rainfall’. As the financial capital braces for heavy downpour today, the warning will remain intact till 6 July. Authorities warned of disruption to daily activities in view of inclement weather conditions and even issued emergency helpline numbers.
The Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a post on X listed areas on IMD's red alert and as a precautionary measure provided emergency helpline numbers for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Panvel. The post states, “Heavy Rainfall Forecast in Mumbai-MMR, Konkan, and Ghat Areas of Central Maharashtra from July 4 to 6.”
Warning against disruption to public travel services, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Office added, “A forecast of heavy rainfall has been issued for Mumbai city along with the districts of Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg from July 4 to 6. Additionally, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in the ghat areas of Satara, Pune, and Nashik districts in central Maharashtra during this period. Disruptions in local travel and some structural damage cannot be ruled out during this time.”

As many as five Mumbai-bound flights, including three operated by IndiGo and two by Air India, were diverted to nearby airports on Saturday due to unstable approaches, heavy rain and low visibility, a source at Mumbai international airport told news agency PTI.
Of the five diverted flights, four later returned to Mumbai, their original destination, the source said.
According to the source, two of the three flights -- IndiGo flight 6E 594 (Raipur-Mumbai), 6E 6544 (Varanasi-Mumbai) and 6E 6283 (Bengaluru-Mumbai) -- were diverted to Surat airport, while one was diverted to Ahmedabad.

The India Meteorological Department said on Saturday, “A well-marked low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal. Due to its influence, the southwest monsoon is likely to remain active over the central parts of the country during the next 4–5 days.”

"The Mayor, Mrs. Ritu Tawde, urged citizens loitering along the seafront in the Worli area—ignoring the instructions and warnings issued by the Municipal Corporation administration and the police administration such as "Do not step out of your homes unnecessarily in heavy rain; do not go to the seafront"—to leave the area, as they were spotted wandering by the seaside and sitting on parapets here and there. The Mayor clearly told the citizens that it is not advisable to risk going to the shore while the sea waves are crashing," the BMC said.

- Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, gusty winds 40-50 kmph, Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Marathwada.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that G South Ward office recorded 141.8 mm rainfall – the highest in the city during the last 24 hours, from 8 AM on 3 July 2026 to 8 AM on 4 July 2026. Meanwhile, H West Ward office registered maximum rainfall of 150.6 mm in Western Suburban area. N Ward office recorded a 143 mm rainfall reading, the highest in East Suburbs.
